Energy or mass cannot be “created” without particles or potential energy already being available. If we plant a seed, it must rest in fertile soil, absorb water, and draw atoms from the air before it can sprout. Each particle already existed somewhere: in the ground, the water, or the sky, before joining the mass of the tree. No atom, no particle, no essence is ever created or destroyed. It only changes form.
As the tree grows, new atoms join its body. They weave together into fiber, bark, and leaf. Yet the life itself began with that seed. We can nourish the tree, feed it, give it oxygen. Later, we may cut it down and shape it into furniture or homes. But we did not create the tree. It grew from existing life.
Even if we burn it, the atoms remain: transformed into ash, smoke, and heat. Nothing is lost.
This law is true of everything in the universe. We, too, are subject to it. Our form may change, but our essence, the particles, the spirit — endures.
God revealed this eternal truth long before science named it. He knew us when we were only “intelligences,” eternal potential waiting to be organized. He shaped us into His spirit children, loved us, and let us see Him as He truly is.
In heaven, He asked what we desired. We longed to become like Him, to gain bodies of flesh and bone. He told us it was possible, but it required a process. We would need a world governed by law, where choice and consequence would shape our growth.
Breaking those laws would bring punishment. Only a perfect being could bridge the gap. One Son said, “Send me.” Another said, “Send me,” but sought to change the laws themselves. God chose the first, Jesus Christ, and through Him salvation became possible. Even rebellion had its place, for without choice, Jesus Christ versus Lucifer, obedience could not exist. Even Lucifer had a choice, he chose rebellion.
Just as atoms endure through transformation, so do our spirits endure through mortal experience. The body may die, but its particles remain. The spirit continues, progressing toward divine likeness. Science describes the process; faith reveals the purpose.
Nothing is wasted. Nothing is lost. Just as matter transforms but endures, so do we.
